Looking for an Avvo alternative?

Avvo is a widely used place to look up lawyers and read public legal questions. If you're searching for something else, you may want to ask a question, read an answer, or find a lawyer without guessing who to call. You can do those things here.

What you can do here

What you wantWhat happens on ProctorLaw
Ask a question without making an account You can. We ask for an email so we can tell you when someone answers. You confirm that email before the question goes up.
Read an attorney's answer Attorneys we've approved can answer. The answer is general information about the kind of problem, not advice about your facts.
Look up a lawyer Approved attorneys can publish a free profile: name, firm, photo, bar state and number, practice areas, location, bio, and years in practice. We don't show ratings, reviews, or a ranked list. Out-of-state attorneys can be listed.
Get help with your own situation Tell us what happened and we match you with one attorney. That's free for you. The attorney contacts you. Most people hear back within 24 hours. You don't have to hire them.
You're an attorney A public profile is free. If you join the matching network, you get a free trial of about 90 days. After that, you pay a flat monthly subscription. The price depends on the practice areas and counties you choose to appear in. It isn't tied to matches or clients. If a month has no client requests in your areas, billing pauses for that month.

What we don't do

We don't represent you, file papers, or go to court. A profile isn't a recommendation, and an answer isn't a hire. If you hire an attorney, that relationship is between you and them.

We also don't pretend to know another company's prices, ad products, or rating formula. If you want to compare sites, look at what each one lets you do, then check their own pages. We have a longer write-up at ProctorLaw vs Avvo and a roundup at Avvo alternatives. Those pages include our opinions. Treat them that way.

If you're an attorney

You can answer public questions and publish a profile at no charge. Joining the matching network is separate. You get a free trial of about 90 days, then a flat monthly subscription. The price depends on the practice areas and counties you choose to appear in. It isn't tied to matches or clients. If a month has no client requests in your areas, billing pauses for that month. Details are on pricing and for attorneys.
