These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ProctorLaw and our website at proctorlaw.io (collectively, "the Service"). By submitting an intake form, creating an account, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms form a legal agreement between you and ProctorLaw. Please read them carefully.
ProctorLaw is a free attorney matching service for consumers in Ohio. We review your submitted information and connect you with one vetted Ohio attorney whose practice area and location fit your case.
We are not a law firm. We do not represent clients. We do not provide legal advice. We do not file court papers, negotiate with opposing parties, or appear in court on behalf of anyone. The attorney-client relationship, if it forms, is between you and the attorney you choose to engage after we make a match — not with ProctorLaw.
We are not a referral service in the regulated sense of certain bar association programs. We are a matching platform. Attorneys in our network have not paid for inclusion or for placement.
The Service is free for consumers seeking an attorney match. We do not charge clients to use the Service. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or charges. We do not take a percentage of fees you pay to the attorney you engage.
Attorneys in our network may pay a fee to participate in the network, but that fee is unrelated to and does not affect the matches we make. Attorneys cannot pay for higher placement, faster matching, or preferred routing.
Information provided through the Service — including blog posts, calculators, glossary entries, FAQs, intake confirmations, and any other content — is for general informational purposes only and is not legal advice. Legal information is not the same as legal advice. The application of law to your specific situation requires the analysis of an attorney who has reviewed your case in detail.
Reading our content, submitting an intake form, or receiving an attorney match does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and ProctorLaw. An attorney-client relationship with any attorney you may be matched with is formed only when you and that attorney enter into a written engagement agreement.
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you are 18 or older.
You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information when submitting an intake. Knowingly providing false or misleading information may result in an unsuccessful match, removal from the Service, or, where applicable, civil or criminal liability.
Information you submit through the Service is handled according to our Privacy Policy. Because we share your case summary with one matched attorney for the purpose of attorney evaluation, your submission may be reviewed by that attorney under standards consistent with ABA Model Rule 1.18 (duties to prospective clients). However, submitting an intake does not by itself create a formal attorney-client privilege with any matched attorney; that privilege attaches only after you and that attorney form an engagement.
Do not include privileged information, sensitive case details unrelated to attorney matching, or anything you would not want a prospective attorney to see, in your intake submission.
We reserve the right to refuse service, terminate accounts, or remove submissions that violate these Terms.
Attorneys in the ProctorLaw network agree to a separate set of Network Attorney Terms, which govern lead delivery, response commitments, conduct expectations, and dispute resolution within the network. Those terms are not a part of this agreement with consumers and do not affect your rights under these Terms.
We vet attorneys before admission to the network through our six-point review process, but we do not guarantee any specific outcome of any attorney engagement. The competence and conduct of an attorney during an engagement is between you and that attorney; complaints regarding attorney conduct should be directed to the appropriate Ohio bar disciplinary authority.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PROCTORLAW'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100). WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST BUSINESS, OR LOST DATA, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR THE CONDUCT, ACTS, OR OMISSIONS OF ANY MATCHED ATTORNEY OR THE OUTCOME OF ANY LEGAL MATTER. ANY DISPUTE WITH A MATCHED ATTORNEY IS BETWEEN YOU AND THAT ATTORNEY.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages. To the extent such laws apply, some of the above exclusions and limitations may not apply to you.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ProctorLaw, its officers, employees, and agents from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of (a) your violation of these Terms, (b) your misuse of the Service, or (c) your interactions with any attorney matched to you that fall outside the scope of our Service.
ProctorLaw operates consistent with the American Bar Association Model Rules of Professional Conduct, including Rules 1.6 (confidentiality), 1.7 and 1.9 (conflicts of interest), 1.18 (duties to prospective clients), 7.2 (communications and advertising), and 7.3 (solicitation), and with the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct as adopted by the Supreme Court of Ohio.
If you believe an attorney in our network has violated their professional obligations, we encourage you to contact the Office of Disciplinary Counsel of the Supreme Court of Ohio at 614-461-0256 or online at supremecourt.ohio.gov.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any lawsuit arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Franklin County, Ohio, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
Before filing any lawsuit or arbitration claim, you agree to first contact us at contact@proctorlaw.io with a description of the dispute and to give us 30 days to attempt informal resolution. Most disputes are resolvable without formal proceedings if surfaced early.
If informal resolution is unsuccessful, any disputes will be resolved in the courts identified above. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive or equitable relief in court for matters that cannot be adequately resolved through monetary damages.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the new effective date at the top of this page. For material changes that affect your rights or obligations, we will provide reasonable notice (typically at least 30 days) by email if you have provided an email address, or by prominent notice on the Service.
Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance of those Terms. If you do not agree to revised Terms, you should stop using the Service.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. The invalid provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intent.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ProctorLaw regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
